Please help me to get my name off the contest reflector. I sent an
unsubscribe to cq-contest-request, but I am still on. How do I get off this
list? Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Well Saturday's Internet Sprint was a blast! (And from
here in Colorado, almost a JOLT--I had to hold off putting up
the HF6V until 30 mins. into the contest to wait for lightning
to subside).
But at 52 QSOs, my score was WAY up from my last time when I finished LAST!
(How's that for a claim to fame?).
The contest was the motivation I needed to finish wiring my
keying switch box/opto isolator so that the laptop can key
either radio 1 (TenTec 544) or radio 2 (the new addition Icom 735).
It was fun to attempt a 2 radio contest but there wasn't much
activity on 40 to give the technique a good work out.
(Just as well, if more of my 40m CQs had gotten responses, I'd have had
even more cases of "brain freeze" than I did).
Had 40 been the main band, I was expecting to use the HF6V on 40 and the
attic IsoLoop on 20; as it turned out the HF6V (ground mounted, 16 radials)
was on 20 and I used a low dipole for 40m.
Thanks to K1ZX for telling me about the chirp on my signal. A mid-contest
battery swap probably fixed that. I'm going to have to buy bigger batteries
or a real (but RF quiet) power supply.

I believe that we have reached a point where some enterprising individual
needs to conduct a scientific survey regarding the rules in our contests.
I am very interested in the idea that we, individually, can decide which
of the rules we wish to follow. Possibly, the ARRL and CQ can list two
types of rules, those that cannot be broken and those that are optional!
Folks, these contests are supposed to be fun. If you can't enjoy
yourself, this hobby isn't much of a diversion for you.

As a casual contester, I agree entirely. I was really trying to
sympathize with the people who do these things seriously - meaning
that they spend time, money and effort going halfway round the world,
or even putting together a (legally) powerful domestic station.
And without some serious contesters, there might not be any contests
at all. Personally I use them mainly for new band/countries/zones,
enjoy the increased activity on the air, and can be happy making fewer
than 100 Qs in CQWW weekend if they are 'quality vs quantity' ones.
But the people who win these things don't really regard them as fun,
do they? It can't be...

No I'm not (and never did) say that it is "OK" to operate in violation of
the rules du jour. I merely said that I don't take it upon myself to worry
all that much about it when it happens. I choose to operate morally
(legally if you wish) some others may not. Those who don't are aware of
the quality of their "victories". I am aware of the quality of my efforts.
If it affected my family's well being or my livelihood, I might become a
bit more activist. But even then I would have to evaluate the probability
that whining about it would have any positive effect before becoming a
whiner. In such a case I would probably seek more direct means of redress.
However, its real hard for me to get upset about something someone
thousands of miles from here is doing mostly on the phone bands, almost
exclusively in contests, the "evidence" for which (so far) consists of "gee
that guy sure is loud here".

Thanks to all for the Qs and the fun. 126 Qs, same as I have done the
last 2-3 times, I guess that's all I'm capable of. Used my real name,
which became Derk before the first quarter-hour was over. Derrick was
changed to Derlick after 25 mins. Got my first Larry as #8 from K7SV,
then got it 7 times in 10 successive QSOs. Never heard K7SV again and
his name is indeed Larry, so this was probably the situation foreseen
by Tree in his pre-contest write-up (except that he guessed it would be
a Dave).
One dupe - N7LOX and I worked each other with only 2 intervening QSOs
for both of us... It sure is nice to have a contest where old-fashioned
types can use a paper and pencil with no computer crashes to worry
about (the pencil lead didn't even break).
Stayed on 20 the whole time, averaged 1 Q per minute the whole time.
Loud people here were WD8AUB, WA2SRQ and most of the 6s, including
that one in OR. Most frequent workee was K2MM (8 QSOs). Had three
Qs with someone who shows as a 13.5 yr-old Novice in the on-line call
book - encouraging, if true. K5GN/KR0Y/N5RZ all understandably weak
here.
Got the usual weird names, including "iii" or "III", am assured this
was not Geo III WB5VZL, presumably it came from someone correcting
a name with a string of dit-dits and having it taken at face value
(hmm, might have been me, I corrected a couple that way, ack).
Weird feeling working someone for the first time when they are at
QSO #100 or so - can you really be within a few KHz of them for an
hour or more and never run across them?
Nice contest, and the only one in which I'll ever have a hope of
reaching the Top Ten Box....

Subject: TIC ring delay

I ordered a 1022 TIC ring rotor in May with delivery promised by July 15.
I spoke with Todd today to check on the status and now he says early
September! Wonder if others waiting are getting same story?
