This was more like the September contest than June. We had no sustained
openings on 6 to any high population areas though it was
open for decent lengths of time to low density areas. I think we worked just
about every XE that owns a 6M radio. We also completed three meteor skeds on
2: K3UA, W3CCX, WS4F.

Aurora made an appearance on both 6 and 2 about 2100Z on Sunday
and lasted for about 45 minutes and then returned for a much shorter time
about an hour later. Unfortunately it seemed that by
then everyone had gotten frustrated with the generally lousy conditions as we
worked very few stations on either band.

We'll be back at it again in September. Two years ago we had a major tropo
opening all over the eastern US. Last year we had a major aurora. This
year??? Maybe both!!!!!!!!!

One final note: It's 7:45 PM Sunday night (6/12) as I type this. I'm
watching sporadic E on my TV from W4 and other areas up through channel 6.
One can only wonder. . .

I can't let this go by unchallenged... I have the highest respect for
QST product reviews. The reviews seem balanced, accurate, and sensible.
The authors are not vindictive if they find a shortcoming, but I don't
think that they are deliberately soft on anyone either. The heading
"Rough Edges" *often* contains comments that are damning for the rig
being reviewed, whether it's from a Big Advertiser or a Pipsqueak.
Consequently, I feel strongly that QST is as honest a reviewer as
anyone could ask for.

Has anyone heard any numbers from Mr. Congeniality, N8FMD in
the June VHF contest?

What are you doing listening to a list operation in the first place? If
the big gun DXers would avoid them, sooner or later, the DX using them
would realize they aren't working the guys who contribute the green stamps!

Does anyone really CARE about anything from N8FMD, including numbers?
He and his operators have been the one solid line in all the sour grapes
mashed around the DC area since the contest so far...
