Logging: CT 9.06 - has serious dupe checking problems - my apologies to
the stations I called twice.
The balloon was a last minute impulse as I saw it for sale for $5 in
a surplus store on Thursday afternoon. Just couldn't resist trying it.
It's a 5 foot weather balloon able to lift 750 grams. The antenna
was made of #26 stranded hookup wire. The balloon was tethered with
60 lb fishing line. More radials would have helped but it was fun
and reports were consistently about 5 db better than the loop I usually
use on 80.

The log submission deadline is a week away for your NCJ CW logs. They can
be sent via E-Mail to tree at cmicro.com or to 15125 SE Bartell Road, Boring, OR
97009. They can also be uploaded to the N6TR BBS at (503) 658-6116. Leave
me a mail message so I know to look for it.
It appears I will have 100 percent of the logs received on the computer,
so every log helps make the checking process more complete.
The next internet sprint contest will be held around new years. I am
interested in input on the best day. Does January 1 work (around 2300Z)?

For those of you thinking of loading your tower on 160, here is a data
point: 72 feet or Rohn 45, 8 foot mast, 4 element 20 at 72 feet, 5 element
15 at 80 feet, gamma match made out of RG-59 tied to the tower at 65 feet.
200 pf of capacitance at the base gives great SWR at 1870. Need a few more
pf to bring it down to the bottom of the band (but it is less than 2:1 there).
Distance of gamma from tower is about 20 inches. First contact was VK6ABL.
15 quarter wave radials on pretty good ground (better when we get some rain).
I will probably add another 10 radials soon.

I know this is way off topic but I am at a loss otherwise. Does anyone
have an email address for anyone at all connected with organizing the
Dayton Hamvention? Repeated faxes, letters and telephone messages(on
behalf of RAC) never get answered!

Well, CQP turned out to be a bigger CW effort than I planned - thank's
to all of you that suffered through my rotten code. (I won't mention the
obsene things I did to poor NB1B) The reason was the complains I got on my
20M audio. 40 and what little I did on 15M seemed to be fine, in fact some
that made mention of the 20M audio said I must have fixed the problem since
I sounded so much better than on 20.
The 40/20/15/10 antenna is a Cushcraft A4. At the antenna I have 15 ferrite
beads, but no loop. The coax (along with the rotor control line) goes down the
tower (a princely 38 foot) to a coax switch. The switch feeds a R5 (20-10M
vertical) and a HF-2V (80/40 vertical used mainly for a dummy load on 80). The
coax, coax switch control line and the rotor control line runs about 40 foot
along the house where it drops down to the station. As the coax comes in the
station I have another 10 beads on the coax. The coax goes to a tunner, then to
the LP, to the amp and then over to the transciever. Control lines to the
transciever are RG-174, the mike cable is wrapped in ferrite, the headphone
cable is wrapped in ferrite. The transciever is powered by 12 volts and those
lines are wrapped in ferrite. Still bad audio. I have a ground lead about 6
foot long and all equipment is grounded at a common point to the ground rod.
I am starting to run out of ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
Of course if I don't get the problem fixed you'll have to put up with
my CW efforts :-)

Sort of..in the log it may look like 9 minutes.

This is OK..do not confuse the issue with RUN or MULT.

In theory you only really have one TX anyway. IMHO this was a bogus band
switch and I or WE at V31DX would NOT have made this band change until
00:20 and I would read the rules and the spirit of the rules that this
would/should force the station to be reclassified to M/M.

Maybe we are not as aggressive as you guys, but just trying to follow the
rules and avoid getting reclassified as M/M!
