Wait a minute guys!!!!! I log into our local cluster (WB0ISW) in every contest,
but I can't see a single spot. See I use CT for every contest and in the single
op low power category, CT will not let you see spots, or even talk via packet.
So before everyone jumps on the "let's send a log-in list to the powers that
be" bandwagon, let's look more at the situation at hand. If there is a station
that looks at packet when he is planning on submitting a log as "single-op
unassisted" then that is HIS problem. He probally would take the last piece of
candy from one of his kids too. But that is not my worry, I do the best that I
can, (taking in account that I live in the REAL black hole of the Kansas City
area), and don't worry whether the other guy is cheating, I think someone said
this is supposed to be fun RIGHT?? If you are worried about if the next guy is
cheating or not, then it takes all the fun out of it, in my book. Let them be,
because sooner or later it will all come full circle. And besides, the CQWW's
are getting REAL close and there are other things to worry about. I hopefully
will be seeing everyone on the air from the new NX0I multi/single station.
Remember if you can't have fun with it......TRY ATV!!!!!

Congratulations to K1KI on winning the CQWW CW single-op all band for the
USA. He had a fantastic effort (especially the 160m score).
I was a little disappointed in the write-up for this class. K1KI beat
two other VERY CLOSE competitors. He was only 24K points above K1ZM (who
was #1 in the high claimed scores by the way). Only 10K more behind was
me (K5ZD)! Imagine...three top single ops only 34K apart on scores of 5.6
Million! This is a virtual tie! HAS IT EVER BEEN THIS CLOSE BEFORE?
Does the write-up make any special mention of this incredibly close
race? Nope. Just one sentence that KI beat ZM. Well hey! My score was
right there. I put in the same 44+ hours they did. I'm bummed...
By the way. With all the talk about one radio vs. two, I did both CQ WW
last year with only one radio and one amp. Came in 2nd to K1AR on Phone
and 3rd (to KI and ZM) on CW. Not bad. In the CW contest, ZM was using
two radios hard all weekend. KI had 2 rigs set-up but did not use them
much due to audio problems. Careful look at the scores shows that the
2nd radio is probably worth 6-8 zones and 10-30 countries (AT THIS LEVEL
OF COMPETITION). Now that I have lost by only 34K, you can bet that I
will have 2 radios going for this year!
The only good thing about losing is that it gives you plenty of
motivation for the next time. Enough said.
For those of you still reading, did anyone notice the box listing number
of QSOs worked on each continent? Europeans made nearly 50% of their
QSOs with each other. AND ONLY 7% WITH NORTH AMERICA! And 30+% with
Africa. These numbers can't be right!?
Can't wait for WW Phone. See you there as single op (or single op
assisted if I want to escape getting pounded by K1AR).
