Ring rotors on contest stations

Just got a flyer from TIC General yesterday, announcing that the 1022B
ring rotor will cost 50% more than the 1022 I bought this past winter.

Question: does anyone know whether the "improvements" are worth the cost
I guess the previous model is discontinued.

Question: while several ring rotors appeared to be a cost-effective
substitute for a rotatable tower, it appears to be less attractive now.
What alternatives are available to those of us trying to get some contest
antennas up and in the air?
