Please keep the scores coming in! I know there were plenty more
schools on the air. Please let me know if you find any errors in
the listing. Note that I've added a # of university clubs worked

Combined Score Unofficial Results:
These results assume that phone points totals are supposed
to be based on KP4VA's phone score (highest of combined
entries) rather than W5YM's (highest phone only). I think
this is the way the NA QSO Party handles it.

Subject: LOGGING ACCURACY vis-a-vis ON4UN
Message-ID: <81951128232318/0006489207PK1EM at MCIMAIL.COM>
The question of logging accuracy is good one in that it points out
how dependent we have become on logging programs (which don't do
what is required). The question posed about ON4UN's "logging
accuracy" and ethics gets to the heart of the logging program's
problems. LOGGING is separate and apart from SCORING. If you
work OX5XX in the contest and he sends you 599001, you are SUPPOSED
to log 599001. When you apply the points for multiplier credit, you
mark it as zone 40 (and probably a new mult). Do you get this? You
record the exchange as sent, but COUNT the real zone. Nowhere does
it say that the exchange sent/received is what you count! NONE of
the software out there lets you do this!!!!!! I know that I have not
addressed the specific question asked about ON4UN and I choose not
to answer it here. de Doug KR2Q at mcimail.com

With all their new capitalist wealth, perhaps they have moved up to ssb?
There were several on during the 'phone weekend.

While this describes the sequence of events, it doesn't address the problem:
What are the "official" rules?
If the answer is "the files on the infoserver" then I must protest. Only
a small percentage of hams have Internet access. Putting the official version
of the rules on the Internet restricts access to a priveledged few.
QST is the official publication of the ARRL. It contains the minutes
pertaining to league business. It should also contain the official
rules for league sponsored contests. QST is the most accessable medium
for the majority of hams, and is the only logical place to publish the
official rules.
This is not to say the information should not be made available by other
means. However there can be one and only one *official* version. This
must be the version printed in QST. Copies should also be made available
on the Web server, the FTP archives, and via e-mail, however these copies
must contain a disclaimer stating that the real live 100% official version
is found only in QST.
If there is an error in the rules printed in QST, and the error cannot
be corrected (via prominent notice in QST) in a timeframe where it is
reasonable for people to see that correction before the start of a contest,
the ARRL should be bound to honour the rules as printed in QST, errors
and all.
Isn't all of this just plain old common sense?
