Comments

Extremely poor conditions - no Ws on 40 on the first night - made it hard
to compete but we achieved the objective of demonstrating a modern contest
station to convention visitors. The packet link was solid for 48 hours, PC
networking worked a treat as did the rig control. We had a huge VGA monitor
on the third PC and could demonstrate to visitors all the contest logging
features.

Thanks to all who gave us QTCs and especially on Sunday evening when
conditions to the US started to recover. A number of guys said they had
no QTCs right now but would go and get some then come back to our run
frequency when they had ten for us.

We thought it would be indelicate to ask XR0Y for QTCs on 80m.

As long as we are engaged in a microscopic examination of the ARRL DX 
Contest results and writeup, is there any reason to keep calling the 
listing of Maryland scores "Maryland-DC" when the DC scores are broken 
out separately and listed under "District of Columbia"?

There was a demonstration of the noise-addition technique on NPR a few
months ago.  It was quite impressive.  I'm not sure how valuable it
would be for HF signal detection, however, since there's usually plenty
of noise present.

Subject: Contest Technique

What's the best operating procedure for the following scenerio? I am
basically thinking in terms of Sweepstakes, but this could apply to many
contests:

Station 1 has mega-watts and is running stations on "his" frequency. I am
listening and hear Station 2 work Station 1. I need the Station 2
multiplier. What's the best way to work Station 2?

I usually wait for Stations 1 and 2 to finish, then call Station 2 a little
off frequency -- in the "direction" he is moving, if I know. Sometimes it
works; sometimes it doesn't.  Is there a better way?
