let us not forget the rabid hatred civil authorities have
in many areas of the country for people who DARE to
listen to official radio. In NJ, for example, a number of
hams have had radios confiscated because they 
violated state laws against having radios that can
monitor police freqs.

Well, the next time one of those Sheriff Deputy types down here points one
of those radar gun thingees at me and pulls the trigger I'm going to demand
to see a copy of his field strength calculations right on the spot.  Might
take his mind off the fact I was going 20 over.

And, by golly, if he doesn't produce a copy of the field strength
calculations (plus any environmental impact studies that are required) right
then and there, I'm going to just wait for the next ambulance to go by, grab
one of the attorneys following along behind it, and sue the bejeezus out of
the county.

(And yes, Trey, this SHOULD have been posted somewhere else...)
