Hi Bill...

Interesting comments...but the lack of a ham's ability to prove he/she was in
compliance...would be the downfall of anyone trying to prove he/she WASN'T in
compliance. "No, your Honor, I haven't used my radio in years." ...or... "I
just use that equipment to listen" ...or..."I never use more than 50 watts
ERP." And, of course, the $64,000 question..."Tell me, Dr. Bafoonik...as the
nation's leading gynecologist, what quanitative scientific data lead you to
believe that Grannie's goiter was caused by ND8L's amateur radio station and
not by that 1.5 million watt ERP UHF TV station less than 1/2 mile from her
home? (Or the freakin' microwave?)"

The real scary issue is that the FCC didn't seem to preempt the local and
state agencies from implementing their own standards. That should make the
collective blood of the fraternity run cold.

By the way, if I wasn't already my own insurance agent, I'd be calling my
agent first thing tommorrow morning and discussing the purchase of a Personal
Liability Umbrella Policy with him/her. Dust off your homeowner's insurance
policy and take a look at the liability section...if you WERE sued for
causing Grannie's tumor/goiter/twich or $200 a day crack habit...that may be
considered bodily injury liability, and as such, could be considered a
covered loss. Just the same as if your neighbor's twelve year old took a
tumble while trying to scale Mt. Rohn in your backyard.

And call me a skeptic...but you had best believe that your friendly,
neighborhood member of the personal injury bar (if he/she/it can find
his/her/its ass with both hands) knows one thing real well: your Homeowner's
Insurance Company probably has much deeper pockets than you do. And I want
to make sure those pockets are REAL deep...hence the Umbrella Policy.

Wow...did I open another can of worms or what?

I think I'm going to take up macrame'.

Just visited DX4WIN website (http://www.erols.com/pvander) and see that
v1.07 is out as of 8 Aug. One of the changes is that it will now import
WB2OPA Logmaster files. There is a demo file available if you care to try
it out.

The usual disclaimers; no commercial interest, just a satisfied customer,
etc., etc.

I am doing an Intro to Contesting forum at the Huntsville Alabama
hamfest this weekend. I plan to cover the basic terms of contesting,
info on cq-contest reflector, dx reflector, contest logging reflectors,
basic info on domestic contests, why not to use the "last two" in a dx
pile up.

I will have a handout on how to subscribe to various contest related
magazines, all the "tips" I can think of and reasons TO operate in
contests.

If YOU were attending this forum wfhat information could I present that
would make you want to try contesting? Also, What would be the one piece
of advice YOU as an experienced contestor would want to pass on to a
newcomer?

Thanks
