OK! Here goes...

Does anyone know of any articles on using a trolley-cable system to put 
up a beam? We're thinking of using it for a 3-el 40 meter Yagi.

Imissed Jim in the contests and spoke with him often as VR1B, but I seemed 
to catch up with him just as he was saying, "I gotta quit this two log 
thing, I'll be VR1B for the remaining QSO's." What poor timing I had! 
Finally worked Baker-Howland back here when K9AJ & Co. went out for a new 
one! 20+ years later, I get my timing right!

I' m writing some articles for an italian ham magazine.
I think that images make words more effective so I would like to publish a
couple of pictures of big towers or big antenna istallations.
If you have interesting pictures (i.e. your new BIG tower, or your new
istallation for a local broadcasting service) attach me a file with these!
If your pictures will be pubished I' ll send you a copy of the magazine
with the pictures of your monster in!

Guys and Gals...

Well, I must say that I won't get the phased array done in time for FD.
Maybe next year.  Work just went nuts and I have been putting in long hours
here at the Med Center.  Also, family things have kept me away from the shop
to put it all together,

I am not going to abandon the whole idea, cause I've wanted to try it for
years.  But, time is running out on me.

I am going to try to put up a raised verticle on an 8 foot 4x4.  Then uyse
raised ground plane wires using fence posts to hold them up.  See what
happens there.

Also, most of  your guys talked me out of the phased array saying a 40 meter
dipole as high as I can get it would be better.  I agree...but you gotta do
something crazy on FD!  Right?  Well, we are going to try a Zepp too on 40
meters from the 80 foot cottonwood tree.  I gotta remember where I put my
bow and arrows.

Thanks to you all for the comments...supportive and stark reality.  What a
great bunch of people!

Subject: SO2R blues/Icom service kudos

        First, a warning to all new SO2R (single op 2 radio, in case you
missed Bill's post) ops. Don't be as dumb as I am! Thanks to work, I had a
total of 8 hours of sleep the 2 nights (5 hours one night and 3 the next)
preceding WPX. Then all day of up and down the tower, etc. About 05:00z or
so Sat am, in a zombie like state, I proceded to tune the 2nd rig/amp on a
40 mtr dipole while the 1st rig was still on 40 and the yagi. Bye bye front
end of the 775. As the song says, "it sure was fun while it lasted". Anybody
designed an idiot - proof lockout to prevent this? 
        Now, for the good stuff (and the only reason I'd publicly admit to
being so stupid). Shipped it off to Icom, the slow cheap way, they didn't
even get it for a week, and in 2 1/2 weeks I had it back, fixed! And, even
though I had told them what I had done, no charge!!! Needless to say, Icom
now has one more lifelong customer. It's something to keep in mind when
you're shopping for that fancy new rig. Maybe if Kenwood had service like
that (and a radio as good) they wouldn't have to stoop to selling through CB
shops.

KL7C designed and used one on a 4 el, 70 foot boom, 20 meter yagi that
works well. The tower finally failed, so it is no longer up.

Subject: Looking for summary (DSP's and ARC)

Has anybody compiled a general summary of noise reduction
devices? I've checked a couple of the WEB sites but nothing
jumps out. I am interested in the capabilities of the
DSP's (external) and the ARC device in regards to noise (pulse
and wideband) in general. 

I have seen a lot of this go by in previous posts (I just never
thought to save them). Maybe somebody else has. Save the bandwidth
for the KV4 and other memorable discussions that seem to dominate
the reflector lately and reply direct. Thanks. Rock n Roll and see
you from K7LED on Field Day. (Oh, I'm so excited...... just 
three more days until sunburns, bad chili, mosquitos, and some
good CW  ;>)
