Well, life takes its twists and turns. I've just accepted a position at a

Would be interested in hearing from any DX'ers/Contesters in the

I wonder if anyone would be able to pass along licensing info for Zambia (9J). I
did not see a 9J entry in the WWW Licensing Info page. Also, I have postal
addresses for 9J2BO and 9J2SZ, but wonder if anyone could pass along
telephone and/or Internet address info. I appreciate any assistance!

Elkhart High School physics department started the first amateur radio club
in Elkhart, summer of 1958! Field day for this club was my very first radio
experience. W9FQN (now living in Escondito, California) was my Elmer. All
the DXers I met were old timers at the time, so I can't help you with any
current calls, but it sure brings back memories of my first QSO as KN9PDH!
Good luck with your new job...

The next time the reflecto-cops start whining about CRAP posts, add these
CC:s to the list. And add this post too.

WRTC 96 could use your help.
We've raised 75% of the funds to provide lodging, meals, local
transportation and awards for the participants. We've just about tapped out
our sources of corporate funds, but we've had some really generous donations
from individuals. Now we're asking for your personal financial support to
get us the rest of the way.
Competitors and judges are responsible for their own transportation costs
from the 30 participating countries to the San Francisco area. A donation of
$500 covers the local costs for one participant for the week.
We're grateful for whatever you can offer. Donations of $100 or more are
tax-deductible if sent to the WRTC 96 Fund, Northern California DX
Foundation, P. O. Box 2368, Stanford, CA 94309-2368. Many employers match
individual charitable contributions, and the NCDXF accepts donations of
appreciated public stock.
You can win your own awards and sponsored trophies by working the
competitors on all the WRTC band-modes, 40-10 m, SSB and CW. WRTC stations
W6A-W6Z and K6A-K6Z will send unique, distinctive QSL cards 100% via the
bureau. You can meet the competitors at Dayton-style hospitality suites at
the WRTC hotel, Motel 6 in Belmont, and at picnics at Coyote Point and
Martinez.
Thanks for your consideration.

I've had two questions from several sources:
Principal corporate WRTC sponsors are Icom, Yaesu, HRO, Shell Oil, NCDXF,
CQ and ARRL; WJET-TV is donating the complete professional event video;
AEA, US Tower and Hy-Gain have made donations. Several individuals have
made generous donations of $1000 or more.
Re employer matching, several folks have approached their employers directly
with good results. WRTC 96 is a non-profit public benefit California
corporation. I can forward our Tax Identification Number and other
corporate information to your company's finance or personnel department
upon request.

I'm afraid this opinion is shared by many great contesters, like my
friend SAA8618. His call is not important to this post, if you
have to know, e-mail him or me.

Subject: Frozen VFO Knob
Message-ID: <Pine.GSO.3.92.960505212139.17119B-100000 at davinci.netaxis.com>
Does anyone have a solution for this one?
After operating the County Hunters Contest from my car most of the
weekend, the VFO knob on my Yaesu FT-767GXII froze up with two hours left
in the contest (so no S&P during this time!). Once or twice during the
day the knob became a little hard to turn, but then recovered. Not the
last time. It is frozen tight. I can slide the knob off the shaft but
the shaft won't move at all. The rig had been on continuously for about
10 hours, and it was pretty hot, but it's taken such punishment before.
I am supposed to take this rig to 9M2 for WPX in two weeks so there may
not be time to return it to Yaesu and get it back before I leave. Anyone
with experience with and/or a fix for this problem?
