Maybe, maybe not. In any event, it'll die down pretty soon.

If that's true, it'll be an easy matter to request the old call be
re-issued...after adequate discussion on the reflector of course!

OK, think I'll go check the tracking on my overnight mail and see if
the FCC has me in the lottery yet...

Only when they are calling me in a contest, answering my reply to their CQ, or
are replying to my CQ.

Robert, I thank you for sending this message. When I read the messages
of a couple of days ago, I thought an appropriate reply was in order. I
am not changing my station call sign but, I am the trustee for a number
of clubs with stations in various locations, and we intend to file for
some appropriate club call signs for all of them, some 1x2 and some 1x3.

And I say the same. I am not filing on the 23rd, and will not
for 2 or 3 weeks. Hopefully that will allow time for all the DXers and
contesters to get their choices, and then those of us that would like to
have a shorter formatted call sign for our club stations will not be
frowned upon so strongly. After all, we're following the rules just like
everyone else.
My personal feeling is that the greatest impropriety in the whole
vanity call sign program is allowing operators to raid the available call
signs from a district outside the district they reside in.
In this case it would be appropriate for me to make a list, and
post it to the reflector, of all those operators who unscrupulously
raided call signs from the 5th District and denied me and other 5th
District operators the opportunity to select an appropriate call sign in
our own district.
