   The proper thing for your contest software to do is to mark it as a
dupe, give it 0 points, but leave it in the log.  If your software is 
actually removing dupes from the log, you have a problem.  This is why
you will see people posting summary results for SS (for example) where 
the QSO total is greater than half the points claimed (every QSO being 
worth two points) - there are dupes in the log.  This is perfectly OK,
so long as you don't try to claim points for more than one of the 
contacts.
