I think making contacts on the different modes (or bands if single-band)
is OK. They (CQ AND ARRL?) let single-band entrants also operate other
bands for submission of club competition scores.  It's the sked making
that is illegal.  Soliciting contacts on the "other" band/mode is NFG.
That AFFECTS your score.
