Jim,
  In my original post of this series, I was pretty specific about that I 
thought...

"In the US we are required to ID at the end of "each communication"...that 
probably means
after each contact..."

It doesn't necessarily apply to BY either, but in my opinion it is poor 
operating practice
to go 5 - 10 - 15 QSO's before giving you call...
