I find the practice of a multiplier station CQ'ing in the M/S category
repugnant. My station (K5RC/K5GA) held the M/S records in CQ WW for a number
of years and there was never even a suggestion of CQ'ing on the second radio.
We used every trick we could muster from operators speaking Spanish and
Portuguese to coaxing an operator at a military club station to dismantle a
code practice oscillator to hook up a key to his radio for a contest mult. I
consider those inventive tricks part of "pushing the envelope. "CQ," on the
other hand is a general call. I can't even imagine the logistics of CQ'ing
for new mults. Sorry, gang, that dog don't hunt. Let's push for a multi-two
category in CQ to fill the need for "limited multi-multi." In my opinion,
M/S should be encouraged as an enhanced single-op, a way to train new ops and
an opportunity for fellowship and inventive strategy.
