I agree with Rich Boyd, KE3Q. It is a simple debate by the haves vs. the
have nots, Republicans vs. Democrats, Capitalists vs. Socialists, land
owners vs. tenants, etc. If you earn an advantage by hard work and careful
selection of your parents, you deserve to own more. The more toys and land
you own, the more likely you are to win, assuming your skills equal the have
nots. I hope it never changes, because that is the basis of the great U.S.
capitalistic society. Otherwise, bring on socialism and its level playing
field, boredom and lack of excitement, motivation, and fun.

I cannot afford a big station. I scrounge as many do. But I do NOT
begrudge those who can afford it. I believe in incentives and testing. I
strive for the same goal. Take away the carrot on the end of that stick,
and I will vegetate! This reminds me of a political debate among the
Republicans and the Democrats, or worse, between the Reform Party and the
Green Party. Don't resent the hams who live in New England with sea coast
stations. Move there and join them, or change the rules to favor your home.
How silly! It is only a hobby, but it challenges and measures skills and
commitment. Maybe ARRL and CQ should award more plaques for being there,
not for making points. Don't call it a contest, call it a DX operating
event. (Sounds like Field Day, where we dare not scare away the timid and
incapable.) Allow me to degenerate to my pet subject. Take away incentive
licensing and skills, so all no code techs can share the same pleasures and
joys that Extras earned. The FCC and the ARRL gave it all away for free.
If a Sweepstakes or DX contest operator can gain an advantage by
relocating, all the more power to him. Everyone has some advantage in life.
He must learn to capitalize on it. If you live in the black RF hole in the
upper Midwest, specialize in Sweepstakes. If you live in Maine close to
Europe, specialize in the CQ WWDX contest. If you live in Oregon or
Washington, specialize in the All Asian Contest. Make the most of your
opportunities. Stop the complaining. Get on with your life. Bill,
K3ANS>>
