Back in 1968 I worked part time at the university audio visual
laboratory as a technician.
I brought home one of those artificial larynx devices to play with.
It made a speech from the human user that was monosyllabic and sounded
very much like a 2001 Space Odyssey audio.

Anyway, I put the dern thing on the air, and pretended to be a robot by
just confining my transmissions and contacts to a patent format of just
A standardized rhythm CQ message.
Responding to calls by just transmitting the calling station callsign,
followed by a repetitive signal report,
followed by a repetitive 73 and good luck.

The pileup was total bedlam.

Using a separate receiver, (my old HQ-180) I would every once in a
while tune up the band and hear people talking about the new robot on
the air.
There would be guys jabbering about how far technology was moving
along, and they figured this was the most exciting thing that they had
ever heard on the bands.

The only hard part for myself was trying to not laugh through the
artificial larynx.

What a Hoot !
