[CQ-Contest] Seeing yourself as others see you ...

Ladies & Gentlemen:

This discussion regarding log clean up, recording, arcane UBN issues, whether
something is in the letter or the spirit of the rules, etc. ad nauseam has, I
think, gone far enough.

Because I work in this industry as well as having it as my favorite hobby, I
often get the chance to give newbies advice. Usually in the past, when
someone has asked what contesting is all about, I've suggested that a
subscription to the contest reflector was a good way to get to be familiar
with techniques, tactics, strategies, tools, and the like ...

Stepping back and musing on the reflector content for the past couple of
weeks causes me to rethink that advice.

It sure would be nice to see something positive and useful on the reflector
instead of all the concern with angels and pinheads; splitting hairs (or
hares if you prefer rabbit); and ways to "beat the system".

Sure, a forum is needed for "advanced discussion" and exegesis of contest
rules, but to an outsider or newbie, recent reflector content hardly seems
like it has anything to do with the joys and pleasures of contesting for its
own sake.

Just a thought ...

73,
Bill, W1HIJ (/6)
