I have used my Icom 775 dual receive on numerous occasions to search for
multipliers while calling CQ. There is a "balance" control that feeds the
audio levels to both ears, but you still hear both levels. Takes time to
get used to. Much easier with two radios, one fed to each ear with a switch
to give left radio to bothe L-R to each or right radio to both ears. Takes
a little practice but works well.
The only oht4er radio I like for doing the mult search on the same band is
the TS-950sdx which allows you to have the sub receiver in a seperate ear
altogether. This makes it a much easier (IMHO) to seperate the audio for
me. I wish Icom had that feaure rather than balance.
Anyway works ok and very valuable. wWhen you find the station you just swap
VFO's and you are right on frequency (simplex)! When done, swap again and
you are back to calling cq. BTW this option also works great on 40 SSB
Split because you can listen on the high freq and the low transmit frequency
at the same time (dual receive - split transmit). NIce feature to work both
DX and stateside on same transmit frequency.
