Guys, I must warn you - are you SURE you want to bring this subject on the
list?? Some people may feel very unpleasant!
Also, to those who think that running high power is not so important, I can
send just a grin :-) Especially if he comes from UA land...

Subject: [CQ-Contest] off times for single-ops...why?
Message-ID: <001601c0244f$ad2d0900$78c85c18 at tampabay.rr.com>
Picking the wrong off time can alter your finish dramatically...otherwise
known as:
"you worked how many more friggin mults on 80??????"
Having an off time might help to level the differences between East Coast
vs. West Coast in a domestic venue in that there is clock wise three hours
difference and just about that much difference in of all things the time a
gray line passes through one or the other...note I said might all you 6es
and 7es...
Ex:
If you choose an off time at the time the gray line is at your QTH and when
DXing is hot and heavy due to enhanced opportunities you have made an error
in your strategy (yes it is more than staying seated and pushing F1, F1...)
...and your neighbor who hopped the bands and got those juicy mults you
missed while you were away from the rig has beaten you by being a better
judge of his time management...he has stayed within the rules of the
contests and used them to his best advantage, no cheating no envelope being
pushed at all...just better time management!
Can anyone tell ME when they stop CQing and decide I gotta take an off time
I know it will not pick up...I always seem to have a rosy outlook and assume
it is only a bad few minutes....arrrrgh!
ON A DOMESTIC NOTE
Ever wonder if there is a direct correlation between Nielsen ratings bumps
and off time picks for a domestic contest....I know one of the locals
convinced me that that might be happening and as such I pay head to choice
moments during the weekend when an average American might be one of those
tuning in to a given television show - AND NOT MAKING SOME CASUAL CONTEST
QSOs! He sold me on it!
