Actually, running high power does help you hear better to some extent, due
to the "frequency clearing" effect. As one who always runs in the low-power
class when I go on contest expeditions, I have a harder time holding a
frequency and copying weak signals when the big boys start getting too
close, which they do often since my signal doesn't bother them as much as
theirs bothers me. But that's just part of the challenge of running
barefoot!
