Hi Bill,
I concur. We are all very keen to put pictures of big antennas on the mag
covers, and I like that. But I have heard folk 'winge' that that's all very
well, but they can neither afford the metal-work or the space. I think it
may even be too late for the hobby. Our radios frighten away a lot of
beginners before they even get as far as knowing what contests are! I've
actually seen this happen, both with the scary radio and the big antenna
thing.
I always shy away from trying to level the playing field when it comes to
new categories, but this sounds like an idea which would actually encourage
new contesters, rather than make it easier for a particular group to win.
