For the record, as both an avid contester and member of a professional
bowling organization, I can assure you that bowling is not a sport where one
competes against oneself. The best competitions typically end with several
rounds of "match play" where your goal is to beat your opponent by as many
pins as possible. It's a pretty intense environment when you need to throw
one ball and strike to beat your opponent to win a tournament.
