Actually, split operation on 40SSB has some (well...a few)
advantages. It eliminates most "casual" competition. Only serious
contesters/DXers try it. Also, you don't have to worry about causing
QRM on or near the DX frequency. I've been told that folks on the
transmit frequency sometimes get upset, but I wouldn't know - I don't
listen there. (Just joking Riley).
However, the real solution for 40SSB is just waiting to be
implemented. ITU Region 2 has 'phone rights from 7.000 MHz up, so
persuade the FCC to give the Lower 48 'phone rights from 7075-7100,
say. Sort of ironic to listen to 4U1UN operating there - from right
in the middle of New York City.
