Q: Where is the best place in the USA (lower 48) to operate in the
ARRL 10 Meter Contest?

A: Key West, Florida

        Why?

1. Hours of Daylight = 10.5 hours for Miami (Key West is even better)
Compare to Duluth, MN with 8.55 hours. 10 is a daylight band so more
daylight is better!

2. Geomagnetic Latitude = 36N
Compare to Duluth, MN at 57N.
Geomagnetic Latitude is a measure of your proximity to the Magnetic
North Pole and therefore proximity to auroral disturbance effects.
Check out your own Geomagnetic Latitude at:

http://www.sec.noaa.gov/Aurora/globeNW.html

3. Skip distance to highly populated areas is a reasonable distance
so you don't have to mess with those weak backscatter signals!

Where else would be good? Brownsville/TX, Yuma/AZ and San
Diego/CA...but not as good as Key West!

Have fun and see you on 10 this weekend...in spite of the
forecasted disturbed conditions!

                                                73, Bill W4ZV
