[CQ-Contest] Re: PCMCIA Cards

I use the Socket cards with NA and have had no problems. I usually run NA
in a window in W98/Me and it works FB.

My suggestion would be to pay the few bucks extra to get the ruggedized
version. The difference is that the connector is molded in. It is not so
convenient to have the cable hanging from it all the time but the other ones
break too easy. Just remove the card when not in use.

The best place I have found to get them is www.provantage.com. They are
$125 (SL0707-078 ) each for a single COM ruggedized and $185 (SL0723-116 )
for dual COM ruggedized. BTW, an ethernet card is $118... so not much
difference in cost... and I don't think ur RTTY tnc has an Ethernet
connection :-).

As for advice on getting it to work... I haven't had a problem so not sure
what to say. I know K8CC uses these as well. I use them at work with a
variety of DOS and Windows software (stuff I wrote and commercial stuff) and
they work well.

On running RTTY, why not use something like RITTY. This would use the
sound-card. No extra stuff to lug and the performance of RITTY is way
beyond any of the external TNC's (except maybe some of the high end HAL
stuff). There are other rtty sound-card packages available but I personally
don't think they come anywhere near the performance of RITTY.

Good luck whatever you do.
