Why Keep Packet ?
For Little Pistols like me who are relatively new license holders & don't
know other serious contesters well enough to get in on a multi op event or
guest operate at a big station, packet spots provide us with training &
experience of handling pile-ups that we would never usually get. They also
of coarse provide us with rate + points ;-) . Without them, the LP Cqing
experience would become even more boring & ops that do not have high gain
antennas & power would be forced on 48 hour S&P marathons - Personally I do
not enjoy S&P as much as getting rate & when people spot me , it also gives
me chance to prove I can handle working someone every few seconds without
making a mess of it !!!. However, with this said I don't use the packet
network myself as I don't have the equipment & prefer to find my mults the
old fashion way. If I did have a large setup, I would use packet clusters to
spot some of the smaller stations, just to keep them interested in
contesting !!!
What Can we do about the cheats ?
Do you think we'll ever stop people from cheating ? Of coarse not . Where
there's a will there's a way - In medical terms - we are trying to cure
disease not vaccinate against it. Taking packet away will not stop people
from cheating they will just find another way of doing it ( HP , phone
friends etc.. ) !!
But that's just my opinion
