Yeah, but if you want to see which 16-year-olds have learned the basics,
you don't put 'em behind the wheel and out on the street, either :-)
Your points are well-taken. The real questions are (putting on my lab
coat and looking over the tops of my glasses in my best Real Scientist
imitation) one, whether there is a strong and statistically significant
correlation between pileup competition ability and contest score, and two,
whether there are few false-positives and negatives. (i.e. - high-scoring
pileup competition enthusiasts that do poorly on the air and vice versa)
We certainly have a large sample population of contesters and a growing
population of those that have been subjected to pileup competition torment
over the years under reasonably similar circumstances. Armed with a
spreadsheet and large amount of free time, one might have a chance at
answering those questions.
