I like to consider myself a well-rounded radio amateur.  I'm active on all
bands from 1.8 MHz through 10 GHz and "almost" on light (laser).  I do a
LOT of DXing, CONTESTING, design and construction.  I'm active on all the
digital modes.  I even occasionally get on SSTV and throw a couple
pictures around (I'm not fanatical about SSTV, though).  

So I generally know when all the contests and operating events are.  How
come these other guys don't?  It never fails that a major hamfest in this
area happens on the weekend of a VHF QSO Party or some other major
contest.  Maybe some other people live in a box (Sarright? Sarright!)  :-)
