My wife and family don't think it's so patriotic for me to get on a plane
for a ham radio contest right now.

This is a situation that none of us have faced before, and it is not as
simple as being "patriotic".

The question is:

Why not just sit this one out ?  Is a ham radio contest worth the risk ?
What about the feelings of your family ?  What if war breaks out while we're
out of the country ?

The events that have occured have unfortunately altered the way we have to
consider these things.
