[CQ-Contest] CQ Asks Contesters to E-mail All Logs

As a long time ham and participant in CQWW SSB and CW contests, it is most
distressing to read your post to cq-contest. You are supposed to be
representative of the hams, the people who step forward in an
emergency---not those who cringe and run for cover when the going gets rough.

You are dramatically overemphasizing the danger to the staff that would be
opening logs submitted by mail. There are simple means available to secure
your mail system. Why not invest in something that will allow you to
proceed with the contest? You are going to have to deal with this issue
for the long term...not just this contest or even this year.

I support Judge Laney completely. Unless CQ reconsiders this position, I
will not participate in the contest, and further, I will discontinue my
subscription to CQ.

Americans from the USA don't run when faced with a challenge. I fought for
our freedoms, and refuse to allow them to be ripped away by paranoia. If
you allow the acts of a group of terrorists to change the way the entire
ham radio community of the world must function in your contest....they have
won.

The community of radio amateurs is not a group of cowards. We volunteer to
serve our communities in time of need. When has there been a greater need
for us to set an example of fearless, forthright activity on the ham bands?

Do not give in! Spend the money necessary to secure your mail service and
do business as usual.

Sincerely,

Frank Norton II
