[CQ-Contest] Radio Question

Howdy...

I thought I might actually operate a contest for a change, and was 
getting some stuff together this past weekend in anticipation of the 
IARU, when I discovered my ol' reliable TS440 has apparently passed 
on.

So, I'm thinking about getting another radio.  My main rig is an FT-
990.  My first thought is to get another 990, as I'm happy with that 
rig...but they're OOP and aging.  I do like that they're <1000 bucks.

What new mid-level rigs are going to work as well? - primarily 
interested in how they perform for RX in a contest environment 
obviously!

How about the Icom 746pro?  Has anyone used this rig in a contest?

I don't really want to stretch the budget to 2000, but I could...what 
other recent rigs should I consider?
