Article in ComputerWorld about San Diego County HPWREN
network for seismic data collection describes a connection
with 1 watt 2.4GHZ 802.11b WLAN and 2 foot parabolic antennas
to connect San Clemente Island across a 72 mile path.
 
The 11 Mbit/sec rate of 802.11b was cut to 1 Mbit/sec
by the extreme path length.
