I don't know..... maybe because it's just flat-out fun, and in a pleasant
environment to boot!   Hey, I'd much rather guest op at KV4FZ than VY1JA in
November! (Nothing against my friend J, but +80F and curvy beach ornaments
in bikinis beats -40F and snowdrift ornaments in parkas and mukluks.

And if you want "true competition", try winning SS from KG6AQI like I did 4
times (well, actually 8 times if you count both weekends.)  Had I won (I
never even broke 25K points!) it certainly wouldn't have been 'nothing but
a hollow victory'.
