[CQ-Contest] Re: self-spotting

As I have sat on the sidelines observing, with no dog in this fight, it has
seemed to me that K1TT is primarily supplying evidence, and allowing the
readers to draw their own conclusions. Yes he does make it easy to come to
a conclusion, but I do not see him pointing fingers at " 'cheaters' with or
without evidence".

May I add to the general noise by observing that using packet and claiming
to be unassisted is roughly akin to playing a basketball game with 6 players
on one side while the side observing the rules is only playing with 5. The
side which is observing the rules has a legitimate complaint, and has a
right to expect the referees to enforce the rules by insisting that the
offending side play with only 5 players, or forfeit the game.

One could I believe substitute Contest Committee for referee, and expect the
Contest Committee to publish the results, including forfeits (DQs) with the
reasons being given, also.

The point I am trying to make :

a/ some people out there - including K1TTT -
are extremely obsessed with spotting and slef appointed spot policing;
always ready to point finger to "cheaters" with or without evidence;

b/ large number of spots are useless or spam anyway;

c/ if you like to help your local team / club
keep your spots on local network. Otherwise it is contra productive
and will work against you;

d/ there is no evidence that more spots result in higher score;
and spoting other people will definitely lower your ranking;

e/ although spots may increase QSO rate for K4, they would very often
make things worse for rare DX - recent FB8 was perfect example;

f/ there is a number of US East Coast stations - small but faithful flock-
who no longer need receiver. Uninterrupted access to cluster is all they
need;
and I honestly doubt in their ability to S+P or God forbid, call CQ.
Personally I find this viagra-style contesting boring - but hey - I am not
here to judge :-)

    And could you please explain this "half-spotting" : is there anyone,
    anywhere who is actually benefiting from YOUR spots:

  Yup, lots of times my rate gets a big bump when I am spotted and I am only
a lowly K4. it's fun to go back after the contest and check DXSummit to see
where the "bumps" took place as a result of the spots.
