If you want good strong signal performance, consider an Omni Six.  You can 
find one with basic filters for around $1000 and add filters later.  I've used 
the '830 and 930 and believe me, there is no comparison, the Omni wins hands 
down.  If you are particularly interested in CW, the QSK is superb, and the 
combination of passband tuning and notch filter makes for wonderful selectivity.

You might even find a nice Omni Six Plus, or the various upgraded Omnis which 
include a very good DSP noise reduction feature.
