[CQ-Contest] An Innocent Question about Grid-4's/Grid-Fields and HF

There are some hf contests that use grids now, but historically hf
contesting has been based on things like the dxcc and wae country lists,
states, arrl sections, etc.  probably because these were more obvious to
most hams than some kind of artificial grid system.  Even the relatively
long established zones are not all that well understood by many.
