[CQ-Contest] Mode Specificity [was: WW SSB]

Are there any HF events for which mode is not a factor
at all?  In other words, are there any events for
which the real goal is to make contact with as many
stations as possible and allow the operator to use
their own skill and insight as to what mode to use to
accomplish that goal?
