Back in the days of paper logs, it was not uncommon for someone to re- 
write the log sheets in order to make the log entries readable and  
presentable for submission. In doing so, many minor errors, such as  
changing J70J to J7OJ, might have been accomplished.

There's nothing unethical about it. Scouring third party sources to  
try to "purify" a log is unethical, but simple corrections of obvious  
mistakes post-contest is not.
