[CQ-Contest] Contesting Courteously

In the heat of a contest battle, courteousness may go out the window, but I
at least try to be considerate of others. My mother raised me that way. In
WPX RTTY and BARTG RTTY Sprint the same New York station called me and asked
that I move up because I had started calling CQ two kHz above him. "PSE QSY
UP U ARE 2 KC ABOVE ME". I told him I was sorry and moved up. Two kHz
seems like plenty of separation. I know that I am not bothered by the
strongest station two kHz away on RTTY. I use a 250 Hz filter for RTTY.
Perhaps that station should invest in a narrower filter for RTTY contesting.

During WPX RTTY I found myself CQing 500 Hz above 4U1UN on 20M. A station
came on my frequency and sent "QSY QRM QSY QRM" a couple of times with no
ID. I assumed for him I was QRMing 4U1UN. I did not move. When I reflect
on this, I don't know if 4U1UN had started operating split. When I worked
him a bit earlier he was not. So if 4U1UN was operating split, I apologize,
I did not know, but if the station telling me to QSY was trying to use a SSB
filter for RTTY I say too bad.

Happy contesting and see you on the green keys.
