W4ZE: I use a 250 Hz filter for RTTY.

I also use my 250 Hz CW filter in RTTY LSB on FT-1000.
Many people operate AFSK with 3 kHz SSB filter.
RX AGC reacts to the peak of strongest signal in bandwidth.
Beginers call it QRM :-)  Some even switch off AGC.

Worst things of AFSK are suppressed carrier, unwanted sideband and many 
audio harmonics from overdrive.

I was overzealous in this nice WPX condx and sat on station for 36 hours!
Didn't read the rules AGAIN :-)
