[CQ-Contest] Self spotting

If self spotting is bad for contests... then why isn't it bad for daily stuff too? 

I'm not suggesting selfspotting be allowed or condoned... just wondering out loud, 

the advertisements are proported to be ok... and encouraged for daily ops...???
