[CQ-Contest] Remote Contest Operation

The logic of opposing remote escapes me. It comes down to the old question of "How long is a piece of string?" If the controlling "location" is to be where the RF is transmitted and received, it seems to me that a coax line makes the operation "remote". Therefore wouldn't it be a truly wonderful (and logical) sight to see all these aging hams in bermuda shorts sitting at the tops of their towers with their radios cranking out QSO's and being 100% consistent with the concept of no remote operations?
If that is considered too extreme, maybe rules should have a standard arm length for turning the knobs. Anyone with arms longer than the specified standard would be classified as "remote" and DQ'd. Unfortunately, although there is no difference, that would probably also DQ those of us who travel and turn the knobs on the same radio by using a laptop to stretch the length of our arms.

I have no isse with that in general, but were talking about it's implatation in "Contesting" Each governing body each contest sponsor will dictate what's ok. So a good OPEN discussion imo is a productive exercise. The remote operation is a new can of worms to deal with. Heck I spent 1,000 of hours building a 5 tower 11 antenna and all that go's with it, so my opinion my be skewed. eligible ? Illegal ? in the spirit of ham radio ? I say go for the gold.... but if in a completive environment the field must be divided with a place for the that class of opperation ROFPH ( Remote operation from penthouse ) ? Or ROMM ( remote operation maritime mobil ) While in hot tub. Bottom line IMHO as the rules now stand , all radio equipment must be connecte
