What was the exact time where it was just a operator and a radio?  1940, 
1950, 1960?  Was that before keyers, paddles, voice recorders, computer 
logging, 2m spotting nets, telephones to call and make scheds, the mail 
system?

I have to wonder if the proponents for backwardness also drive Model A 
and Model T cars, use wood stoves and have no indoor plumbing.

The hobby is constantly changing and evolving and we continue to create 
new technologies.  We don't shun advances in our daily lives we should 
we do so in Ham Radio?
