While
The Battle of the Hams
is excellent, some of it is out dated, not a lot and the spirit of the
story is still very relevant
Today most people that are not Ham and many that are not yet into Radio
Sport
would rather dive into a cold pool that read more than a sentence or two
in an article dated in the early 50's
Today is more of what can Contesting do for me that I can't do otherwise on
any other week-end
Push up the number of countries you have worked and get them confirmed fast
(Most contest ops know if they don't QSL word will get around and less
people will work them, most contest ops use LOTW and upload their logs just
after the contest is over)
Same can be said for domestique contest with respect to getting Worked all
states confirmed
Hone your skill, become a better op under tiring and strenuous conditions
(Having many years of contest experience served me well while working as a
volunteer during Hurricane Katrina aftermath)
Mentor newbies and meet world class OPS known to others around the world
like ON4UN and many others
Above all it can be a lot of fun !!!
Cheers!
