[CQ-Contest] Sending in a Check Log

To clarify what actually happens in log checking ...

Regardless of whether the log example below was a CHECKLOG or another entry
classification, the log checking has to deal with the incorrect frequencies.
There are alternative ways to do this, but it is irrelevant as to the entry
class of the log. It could have just as well been an all-band or
single-band entry. Being a CHECKLOG didn't help (or, hurt).

However, it was helpful to alert the contest sponsor that the frequency band
info was not always correct. That eases the volunteers' job of handling the
log errors without penalizing the other stations. They will figure it out,
but your telling them saved their time and effort.

Secondly, NILs are created only when both logs are sent in and one of them
does not have the QSO. The only way "to make sure no one got a NIL" would
have been to not submit your log. ;>)

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Sending in a Check Log

I sent a log in as a check log a few years ago. Here's why:

I had a TS930. No connection to the computer.

Not sure which contest it was but think it may have been WPX CW.

Anyway I was on 20m. I'd switch the 930 to 15m now and then to see if it
was open yet and then go back to 20m.

Soon 15m was getting active and so I stayed there. Did the same thing
checking out 10m and wound up going there.

The only problem is that I forgot to change N1MM to the new bands so
everything got logged as 20m!

I checked with the contest sponsor and sent the log in as a check log with
an explanation of what I did.

That was the only way I could see to make sure no one got a NIL due to me
not sending in a log. Worked out fine.

OK, back in my hole,
