[CQ-Contest] New hamvention location

See, the thing is that DARA never reached out us the ham community to seek help in finding a solution. They kept the transition a secret. For the very reason you pointed out- Dayton being the largest ham event in the world- you seek help when the event is in trouble.

I would've gladly contributed in whatever way I can to retain Dayton's status. I bet many others would do the same just like for WRTC2014. We don't need a glitzy venue, but do need an appropriate venue and location.

So, yes, I wish them all the best with the new venue. Really want them to preserve the spirit of Dayton. But in 2017, I will be flying to Germany, not the Midwest as I don't wish to contribute to ham radio being diminished to a county fair.

A bunch of volunteers in a small Midwestern city, without a big glitzy “convention center”, without professional convention organizers, without a huge hotel room inventory, and burdened with a poor physical facility, have managed to keep the Hamvention (the largest ham gathering in the world) going for all of these years.

As such, right or wrong, I expect certain set of attributes, one of them being location. Location is more than just the town/city, but also the actual venue.
