Hi Tom. Thanks for your comments.
Actually, as soon as I saw that the WAE and Russian DX contests were “must wins” to be qualify for WRTC this time, I didn’t even bother. I can never get those contests into my calendar around other contests that I am committed to . So, you won’t see me there.
Actually, I would guess that probably 75% of the winning score from VE will be conducted outside the US phone bands, which is my point.

I would suggest that if you want a level playing field - mano-a-mano - the opportunity will be available a few years from now in DL land. Will be interesting to see if YOU qualify to be there. I expect at least one of the folks on your list WILL be there :-) A few phone Q's in a non-U.S. sub-band won't be the tipping point that will help him secure a seat there :-)

Ed VE4EAR, has nicely made my case as to why its unfairly advantageous to be
able to operate below the US subbands.
To be clear, the current open letter is not attempting to change the rules.
Its to see if the top contenders from VE will voluntarily even the contest
mono - mono and take that unsurmountable advantage off the table.
I personally have no issue with further west VE's taking advantage of that
given advantage, however further west USA stations may have a different
opinion.
