I did most of my operating in S&P mode.. for me.. the number of Qs made an impact.
Many many times, I would come across a station calling CQ... loud and fast... checked the section,
IF I needed it, I would call, for a number of times, if the pile calling was large. IF it wasn't.. and
I found myself in a "Tom" situation.. I would call the second or third time.. no answer. make a note..
move one.. often, I would find another station from the same section unselfishly answering calls,
quickly and effeciently, a few Khz away. Yes, I did miss a few sections.. VI, PR, ONE, and WY..
Heard one Wy, but he only made one Q and left the country.
This all begs the question.. is SO2R the go to mode in SS? and it seems to me that the answer is:
depends.
Have a great day,

Subject: [CQ-Contest] SO2R in the SS
This weekend I worked in the SS a few stations that I assumed were ronning
SO2R. They called CQ. I answered - no reply. I called again - no reply.
Just as I was gong to move the VFO, they came back. Signals were LOUD so I
assume they were copying me just fine as I had been working stations mostly
with just one call.
I think it is kind of rude to assume if you are working someone on radio 1,
stations should just sit and wait for you to finish and come back to
whoever is calling you on radio 2. Especially with the long exchange in the
SS and you are sending about 20 WPM. 73
